Beginning the week of March 7, the annual trout stocking of Oregon’s north coast lakes will resume. A number of lakes are scheduled to be stocked with legal size (about 8-10”) rainbow trout.
Hebo Lake is back on Oregon’s trout stocking schedule for 2011. The United States Forest Service had closed Hebo Lake for much of 2010 while undertaking a large restoration project.
Access to the lake will be available beginning March 7. In addition to legal-sized trout, Hebo Lake a will receive approximately 50 “trophy trout” ranging in size from 1-2 pounds for the initial stocking.
Other north coast lakes will see their first trout of the season next week also. Spring, Cape Meares, Lytle, Town, Coffenbury, and Lost lakes are scheduled to be stocked. Vernonia Pond, in the city of Vernonia, will also be stocked. Each of these lakes, as well as several others, will be stocked periodically through the spring. Recent snow may delay early season stocking at some higher elevation lakes, such as South Lake and Lost Lake.
