A New York State record for freshwater drumĀ was set over the summer, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
The record setting fish measured 33.5 inches and weighed 26 pounds 9 ounces, and breaks the previous state record by more than 2 pounds. Angler James VanArsdall caught the drum in Irondequoit Bay on Lake Ontario on June 14, 2014.
Mr. VanArsdall submitted details of his winning catch as part of DEC’s Angler Achievement Awards Program, which tracks state record fish.
Freshwater drum, also known as sheepshead, are usually found in large rivers and lakes.
