In May, Grant Werkmeister of Williston, North Dakota snagged a record 131-pound paddlefish, near the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers.
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department confirmed that Werkmeister’s 71-inch paddlefish is the heaviest fish caught in North Dakota, breaking the previous record of 130 pounds set in 2010.
North Dakota’s paddlefish snagging season was open May 1-13.
