The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) and Virginia Tech’s Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation have initiated a process to develop a statewide Stocked Trout Management Plan.
This plan is expected to be similar in scope and purpose to Virginia’s White-tailed Deer and Black Bear Management Plans.
Part of the plan includes research to address the following questions:
1. How many stocked trout do anglers catch and harvest?
2. Why are trout license sales declining?
3. What can be done to improve angler satisfaction with stocked trout fishing and management in Virginia?
To gather stakeholder input, VDGIF will be holding public meetings on the stocked trout program and stocked trout fishing.
Two public meetings will be held in Southwest Virginia on the following dates:
February 24, 2014: 7:00-9:00 PM, Mountain Empire Community College – Phillips Taylor Building, Room 117, 3441 Mountain Empire Road, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219
February 25, 2014: 7:00-9:00 PM, Virginia Tech – Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, Room 222, One Partnership Circle, Abingdon, VA 24212-1987
