The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) and Virginia Tech’s Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation have initiated a process to develop a statewide Stocked Trout Management Plan.
According to DGIF, the Virginia Stocked Trout Management Plan will be similar in scope and purpose to the Virginia White-tailed Deer Management Plan and Black Bear Management plan.
As part of the management plan, DGIF plans to conduct research that will address the following questions:
1. How many stocked trout do anglers catch and harvest?
2. Why are trout license sales declining?
3. What can be done to improve angler satisfaction with stocked trout fishing and management in Virginia?
DGIF is inviting public input on the stocked trout program and stocked trout fishing.
Eight public meetings will be held across Virginia on the following dates:
