A Maine angler got an unexpected treat on Halloween. Anders Olafson of Starks Maine landed the rainbow trout on Oct. 31, 2010, while fishing on the Kennebec River. The fish was weighed 8.42 pounds and was weighed on a certified scale at Solon Superette.
The previous state record was caught by Michael Thebarge of Skowhegan on Lake George on Feb. 6, 2009. It weighed 7 pounds.
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and Harry Vanderweide, editor of the Maine Sportsman newspaper, jointly announce new records. The publication has maintained the state record book for more than 30 years.
